Transport in Germany
In the first half of 2019, Gasunie Deutschland transported 101 TWh (10.3 billion m3) of gas (2018: 83 TWh/8.5 billion m3).
From January to the end of May 2019 inclusive, a volume of 832 TWh (85.2 billion m3) was traded on the virtual gas trading platform GASPOOL, representing an increase of 9,8% compared to the same period in 2018 (758 billion TWh/77.6 billion m3).
In the second half of 2017, Gasunie Deutschland signed a joint venture agreement with GASCADE, ONTRAS and FLUXYS to build and operate the EUGAL pipeline. The aim is to have the first pipeline in use from 2020 and to have the total capacity available in 2021. The construction work started in 2018 and the project is progressing quickly according to plan. On 4 January 2019, the German regulator BundesNetzAgentur (BNetzA) approved the investment measure for the EUGAL project until 31 December 2022.
Two requests were received by Gasunie Deutschland for the realisation of two LNG-terminals to be build. The possibility to do so is being analyzed.
Further, a request was submitted to increase the capacity of the Volkswagen power station in Wolfsburg. Volkswagen’s request will result in an expansion of our network from 2022 for the supply of gas to the new gas-fired power station in Wolfsburg. Gasunie took the final investment decision in June.
